What is Dutchiz or who am I?

My name is Meike and I am / work / live / create / design / breathe Dutchiz.
Together with my family and two dogs I live and work in Oisterwijk (The Netherlands, 50 minutes from Amsterdam). From here all products are made and shipped with great care.

Some 100 years ago, the region Noord Brabant (south of the Netherlands) was full of shoe factories and tanneries. The region was known for it, and is still known for it today.
It was a thriving and flourishing market until it was discovered that production abroad was cheaper.

My grandfather and his family also had a shoe factory and made beautiful, good quality shoes.
My father practically grew up in this factory and took his first steps in the leather craft beside his father.
Unfortunately, my grandfather's factory also had to close due to customers going abroad for production.

Working with leather has been a part of my fathers life from the beginning, and this has always been an important part of his life. He in turn passed this passion for leather and craftsmanship on to his eldest daughter. That is me.

It is not that I started to work with leather immediately after school. I studied and have worked in an office for many years. Yet the apple doesn't fall far from the tree because a couple of years ago I made a switch in my career and decided to follow in their footsteps.

There is nothing more beautiful than making a beautiful collar or accessory from nothing more than a large piece of leather. A product of quality and high durability. And this is all done in my own studio. This makes me so proud.

I invite you to take a look at this website and be amazed by the high quality and timeless designs of Dutchiz products.

    With kind regards,

P.s. Would you like to learn more about the history of the shoe factories? Then visit the 'Shoemuseum' in Waalwijk.
